Custom Spurs: What They Cost and How Long You’ll Wait

Custom spurs run from a few hundred dollars and about five weeks to five figures and a wait measured in years. Here is what three makers say on their own pages.

Prices and wait times in this guide were read from each maker’s own website on 5 October 2026. They change, so confirm with the maker before you order. We are not affiliated with any maker named here, and none paid to be included.

At a glance

  • Lowest we found: $310 at Champion’s Choice Silver, with a 35-day minimum production time.
  • Middle: $655 for a stainless spur with custom initials at Tom Balding, running 6 to 9 months out.
  • Highest: Kerry Kelley lists one pair of men’s traditional Chihuahua spurs at $11,000 and says custom spur orders have a 1.5 to 2 year wait.
  • Always ask: current wait, what’s included, and whether the price covers the pair.

Reading a spur’s specification

Tom Balding lists this spur’s specification as a #8 shank (2-1/8″ long), E2 rowels (12 points, 1-1/4″) and a 1-1/4″ heel band. The shank is the arm that carries the rowel, the rowel is the wheel, and the heel band is the part that goes around the boot. When you order, check those three against what you ride in.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. What is the wait right now?
  2. Is the price for the pair, and what does lettering, silver or stones add?
  3. Do I see a design proof before work starts?
  4. What shank length, rowel and heel band width will mine be?

What we couldn’t find

Bits. We haven’t priced bit makers yet, so this guide covers spurs only. We will add makers’ own figures as they list on Western Makers Hub.

Where this comes from
